Sustainability and the Environment

Our Sustainability and Environmental Goals

Sustainability is defined as the development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Sustainability therefore is an issue for everyone, no matter of the size or scale of a business. In line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals we recognise the interdependence between growth and the environment and believe that without a healthy and sustainable environment we will not be able to drive a healthy economy. We value and respect our environment so therefore have set goals which we hope will support the natural resources on which we all depend.

What we set out to achieve:
  • Reduce our carbon footprint:
    • by reducing energy usage, changing to hybrid vehicles, offsetting our carbon from vehicle usage and air travel, using renewable energy wherever possible.
  • Incorporate environmental thinking into all our projects, business plans and actions:
    • by initiating environmental assessments across our project work and throughout marketing activities (such as events and travel).
  • Reduce our consumption of resources and waste:
    • by increasing recycling, reducing the amount of waste that we produce, re-using equipment and instruments where possible, encouraging renewable energy use and storing stationery centrally rather than individually on each desk, encouraging regular maintenance to improve instrument longevity.
What have we done so far?
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments on projects
  • Implemented internal carbon footprint calculator which is used on all projects
  • Our energy is now supplied from 100% renewable sources
  • Conducted annual environmental audits
  • Purchasing eco-friendly printer cartridges from suppliers who offer and provide environmentally sustainable practices
  • We support Project Seagrass through financial donations and on planting days
  • We have replaced printed business cards with digital replacements
  • We have significantly reduced our printed collateral and replaced with digital alternatives
  • We have an extensive recycling schemes including:
    • Separate waste collections for food waste, general waste and dry mixed recycling
    • Recycling of soft plastics, glass, jiffy bags, beauty items
    • Staff clothes bank recycling scheme & team ‘free recycling’ channel
    •  We source second hand office furniture and donate any that we cannot use, back to be reused
  • We have twinned our toilet!
  • We regularly undertake litter picks
  • We promote good housekeeping in the office to reduce energy usage
