The National Lobster Hatchery

As part of our Environmental and Sustainability goals, we are always looking for ways to positively improve our environmental impact.

For Christmas 2023 we decided to make charitable donations to a marine charity, rather than send hampers or edible gifts to our customers. The charity we chose was The National Lobster Hatchery which is a marine conservation, research and education charity based down in Padstow, Cornwall.

“What makes us unique is that our work is specifically related to a commercial species – The European Lobster and in the last few decades we have successfully established ourselves as a centre of expertise on a global scale”.

“Lobster is worth a huge amount in terms of both its economic and social importance. Consequently they are subject to considerable fishing pressure and vulnerable to catastrophic stock collapse. Our pioneering project working alongside the fishing community to proactively support sustainability and conserve stocks has established us as world leaders in our field.”

We have ‘adopted’ over 40 lobsters on behalf of our customers – the donations made “go directly towards raising and releasing baby lobsters”.

The lobsters were released on the 12th of February 2024 in Charlestown Harbour.
